Vote for Tubbataha Video Plugs
The Tubbataha Management Office launched a school-based video plug contest themed “It’s More Fun in Tubbataha” in December 2012. Short-listed entries are now on Tubbataha’s Facebook page for online voting.
The competition, run in collaboration with the Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc., Dela Salle College of St. Benilde and TXL Production, is part of the year-round activities celebrating 25 years of conservation in Tubbataha.
Inspired by the Department of Tourism slogan “It’s More Fun in the Philippines”, the theme encouraged contestants to create a 30-second video showing Tubbataha’s beauty and value as the Philippine’s premiere diving destination. Video footages used in this competition were generously provided by TXL Productions, a long time supporter of Tubbataha Reefs that has an extensive library of underwater videos taken in the park.
SHORTLIST
Twenty-one (21) entries were submitted in January from which six were short-listed by the Tubbataha Management Office. These are now on Tubbataha’s official Facebook fan page for online voting from March 27 to April 30, 2013. The short-listed videos are by Xandrino Mangunay, Jose Mojica, Celina Peñaflorida, Eero Francisco, Jake Soriano and Nikki Mendoza, all Digital Filmmaking and Multimedia Arts students of Dela Salle College of St. Benilde.
AWARDS
The entry to get the most number of “likes” will win the Social Media Choice Award while the one to gain the highest virality will win the Viral Video Award. Only one will be given the overall Best Video Award in the official awarding ceremony in May 2013.
Twenty-five years ago, President Corazon Aquino declared Tubbataha Reefs a no-take marine protected area, the first national marine park in the country. In 2012, Tubbataha was ranked among the world’s best dive sites by the CNN’s travel website, travel.cnn.com and was also recognised by international marine scientists as a model for conservation in the Coral Triangle Region.
