Tubbataha Joins 1st PPUR Day Celebration
The Tubbataha Management Office (TMO) hit the highways during the street dancing and thanksgiving parade in participation to the celebration of the first Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) Day on 11 November 2014.
The parade started from the Provincial Capitol Compound and concluded in the activity grounds of the City Baywalk. The TMO delegation was tailed by a group of lively dancers from the Provincial Government of Palawan before large numbers of crowd watching on the sidewalks. Various groups and sectors from government offices, schools, NGOs, and indigenous people groups also took part in the said festivity. Breath-taking pyro musical display illuminated the clear night skies on the finale of the program.
A day before the grand celebration, activities such as tree planting and medical mission were done in Sitio Sabang where the world famous underground river lies proudly. Television personality Kim Atienza also filmed a documentary emphasizing the PPUR Day. It is expected to air on his TV program Matanglawin.
Declared official by the MalacaƱang through Presidential Proclamation No. 816 on 3 July 2014, the PPUR Day commemorates the historic feat of its inclusion to the New Seven Wonders of Nature in 2012. TRNP and PPUR were also a UNESCO World Heritage sites inscribed in 1993 and 1999, respectively.
