Pilipinas Shell Awards 1.5M Grant to the TRNP

Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) topped Tubbataha’s tank this year to fuel the TRNP
Information, Education, Communications (IEC) and capacity-building activities. The Php1.5 M grant was received by the Tubbataha Protected Area Management Board (TPAMB) Co- Chairman Governor Abraham Kahlil B. Mitra during the Memorandum of Agreement signing with PSFI held last July 1, 2011 at Fleuris Hotel.

Through this grant, Tubbataha can now rev up its awareness campaign and its managers’
capacity to administer the park. Included in the list of activities funded by the grant are public outreaches to at least 10 schools and 10 coastal barangays in Palawan, familiarization tours to TRNP and the conduct of the annual marine park rangers training.

In 2007, Shell International in cooperation with World Heritage Centre assisted Tubbataha
managers in developing its Business Plan as part of the UNESCO’s Enhancing Our Heritage Project. The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park or Underground River was also part of this project.

The TPAMB wishes to thank PSFI for its generous assistance and look forward to a future of meaningful partnership to conserve our common heritage that is the Tubbataha Reefs.
