Global Mala Donates PhP225k to Tubbataha Reefs

The Global Mala Project 2012 has donated PhP225, 000 to support the conservation of Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park. The fund was raised during the 5th run of Global Mala Project in Manila held on 1 September 2012 at the Rockwell Center, Makati City. Tubbataha was chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the project along with the Trees for the Future Foundation and the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women.

The Tubbataha Reefs has been a beneficiary of the said fund raising event since 2009. The donations received from the previous Global Mala Projects were used specifically for the environmental awareness program, and for annual seabird monitoring in Tubbataha in 2009 and 2010.

The Tubbataha Protected Area Management Board is ever thankful to the Global Mala Project and to its sponsors and partners for their continued support for marine conservation. It is through partnerships such these that the mammoth task of protecting Tubbataha, the largest marine protected area in the country, is sustained.

The Global Mala Project is an international event that aims to bring the global yoga community together from every continent, school and approach to form a “mala around the earth”, through collective practices, based upon the sacred cycle of 108-bead mala (a set of beads commonly used by Hindus and Buddhists for keeping count while reciting or chanting). They continuously endeavour to promote awareness and raise funds for some of the most important issues of this time. It is the largest unified worldwide yoga event, dedicated to positive change, in the history of our planet.
